Nigeria Football: NFF, why salary delays is something we are not proud of, Body Confesses.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says delays in paying several of its national team coaches are "nothing to be proud of".

One of the chronic problem bedeviling the Nigeria football space has been the prompt payment and delays of salary. This systemic occurrence have over the years hampered the growth and development of Nigeria football across all levels from national team to the domestic leagues.

The Nigeria Football Federation is no exception of this, the nation football governing body are noted for this practices irrespective of change of leadership at administrative and structural level. 

The NFF this week has openly confessed it shortcomings of oweing various staff employed by the body including it senior men national head coach, players across all levels.

Nobody is Spared by NFF Non Payment of Wages

As stated by reports some of the missing salary payments date back over a year and those affected include Jose Peseiro, head coach of the men's senior side, and Ladan Bosso who is currently leading the male Under-20 team at the World Cup in Argentina where they have reached the second round after defeating the host nation 2 zero.

It is understood that the under-20 manager, Bosso has only received three months' salary in the past 15 months.

Meanwhile, with the Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand less than two months away, Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum is owed more than $100,000, including bonuses from last year's Women's Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).

New NFF boss Ibrahim Gusau, who replaced former president Amaju Pinnick in September 2022, inherited some of the debts from his predecessor and has been appealing to teams national players and officials for patience, meaning the coaches are yet to make an official complaint.

Men and Women National Teams Yet to Receive Match Bonuses  

The most recent missing payments to Super Eagles players date back to 2021 while the Super Falcons squad boycotted training before their 2022 Wafcon third-place play-off against Zambia over the non-payment of both bonuses and allowances. 

Likewise, members of the U20 squad, who face hosts Argentina in their last-16 tie on Wednesday, are also owed qualifying bonuses and tournament allowances.

This is not the first time that the Nigerian coaches have seen their wages go unpaid. According to some reports the list of those impacted by this development is lengthy and includes notable figures such as Augustine Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, Sunday Oliseh, Gernot Rohr, Florence Omagbemi and even the late Super Eagles boss Stephen Keshi.

Based on an official report of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) it says it is working to settle the current arrears.
