WAFCON: Why Super Falcons British-Nigerian Plumptre Ashleigh Cries Out after South Africa defeat (I prefer to play at the center back)

Nigeria women's national football team begins their WAFCON title defence championship with a loss against arch rival Bayana Bayana of South Africa on Monday.

As reactions to defeat gained momentum around Nigerian fans and media, British born Nigerian defender Plumptre Ashleigh have expressed disappointment towards some team mates attitude in the game.

Super Falcons defender Plumptre Ashleigh has reflected on the heartbreaking Women Africa Cup of Nations loss to South Africa on Monday night.

The Leicester City central defender featured as a left back in the 2-1 defeat to Banyana Banyana in Rabat, a decision that didn’t help the Randy Waldrum managed side.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons resorted to long balls from the heart of the defence and it affected their general performance against the mobile South Africa team.

British-Nigerian Reaction

Plumptre Ashleigh said via some texts extracted from Adepoju Tobi’s Facebook handle that she is happy to anywhere for the team.

“I prefer to play at centre-back, but I will give 100% anywhere the coach plays me. It is frustrating to give 100% in the game while one or two aren’t giving their best.”
