Why Cyriel Desser Genk Return would be a Step Down for the Super Eagles Star after Feyenoord Signature Refusal

The media decorations of Desser came after his fine display at the UEFA Europe Conference League, that earned him serious attention among the Super Eagles fans and there were all out call by fans to invite him to the national team

The new chapter of his career in his club Genk after season with Feyenoord may be a step down for the Eagle only if he move towards top league teams.

Desser was one of the hottest on the continent of Europe last season, but Feyenoord has turned down the opportunity to secure his services permanently

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has revealed to the media that Feyenoord refused to sign him from his club Genk permanently because they were unable to meet the Limburgers’ asking price.

In search of playing time, Cyriel Dessers left Genk for Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal last summer, and fortunately for the former Utrecht man, he struck gold with the Portuguese team.

Dessers was one of the hottest strikers in Europe last season. But it was in the UEFA Conference League that his quality shone like a million stars. Dessers engraved his name in the history books, becoming the first player to score ten goals in the maiden edition of the ECL (soccer net).

However, despite his fantastic displays, Feyenoord refused to keep his services permanently even though they had the purchase option, as well as his amazing services to the club.

In an interview with Andrew Randa, the 27-year-old revealed the reason why the former Dutch champions decided against keeping him.

“The money Genk wanted was too much for Feyenoord even though they wanted me but it was too much for them”, Dessers told Andrew Randa.

“I’ve got a few offers so we will see what happens in the next few weeks. Right now it is time for the holidays.

“I’ll go rest and think about football later.”

The disappointment could be a blessing in disguise for the Super Eagles man who recently scored his first international goal.

Fiorentina have been linked with him, and if the deal materializes, he could be playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues for the first time in his career.

A Move Back to Genk: a STEP DOWN

The price tag placed on the Nigerian man had discouraged Feyenoord and if his potential move to Fiorentina do not go through, Desser would be on his way back to Genk.

Comparatively Genk is in Europe's third tier as against Feyenoord which is in Europe second tier in elite league division.

Desser loan spell at Feyenoord and his Europe Conference League fine form has gotten Nigerian fans to wish he stays at the Dutch club or probably to Europe's top leagues this transfer window rather than going back to Genk, where he would not be consider by the media as a top striker irrespective of goals he would score at the league.

As the hunts for top strikers and emerging ones among the big guns in the EPL the likes of Arsenal who are interested in his fellow Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, and Manchester United search for complementary striker to Ronaldo after Cavani departure. And also United losing out Darwin Nunez to Liverpool.

Cyriel Desser should get his agent to working for the search of teams in the top leagues. He should consider Fiorentina deal as a good option available to for now.

If Genk still insist on his price tag to be paid by clubs who wants his service, and such demand is a stumbling block to clubs in the top leagues. Desser should officially demand a permanent move out of Genk

Soaring high should be the slogan for every Nigerian players.
