QATAR 2022: Players of Nigerian Descent Who'll Be Playing In the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.

 

It's just remaining a couple of hours untill we get to see the biggest football fiesta (FIFA World Cup) kick off in Qatar, the first world cup to be held during the winter due to the extreme weather conditions in the middle eastern country of Qatar.

However, it will indeed be a sad story that west Africa football giants, Nigeria will not be in Qatar for the World Cup commencing in few hours time but the country won't be totally missing or absent from the mundial.

However, ahead of the tournament Sportsverb tries to bring to the fore Some players with Nigerian blood flowing in their veins who  will be representing other countries in Qatar.



•MANUEL OBAFEMI AKANJI
[Switzerland]

A defender who plays for Manchester City, The 27-year-old Manchester City defender was born in Neftenbach, Switzerland, to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother.

He made his first appearance in the competiton in the 2018 world cup, and has 42 caps for the Red Crosses.


•BUKAYO AYOYINKA SAKA
[England]

The 21 years old was born in London to Nigerian parents, but opted to represent the three lions.

He  made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side in 2020, and has featured 22 times for the 1966 World Cup winners, scoring four goals in the process. 



•NOAH ARINZECHUKWU OKAFOR
[Switzerland]

The 22 year old foward was born in Binningen to a Nigerian father and has a Swiss mother, he made his debut for the Red Cross  in 2019. 

He was instrumental in their Qatar qualification, as his first international goal sealed the World Cup ticket for Switzerland. This would be his first world cup with the Swiss national team.





•JAMAL MUSIALA [Germany]

The 19 years old was born to a British-Nigeria father in Stuggart and has a German mother, he's one of the youngsters in this tournament representing Germany.

Like several others, Musiala rejected Nigeria, choosing Die Mannschaft instead. He made his debut for the Europeans in March 2021 and has since then played 16 more games for the side with one goal to his credit.



IKE UGBO [Canada]

Ike Ugbo is another player of Nigerian descent  that will represent another country in Qatar.

He was born in London to Nigerian/Igbo  parents but the family moved to Canada when he was aged five.

Ugbo has been called up by the Canada coach in their 26-man list. He was part and parcel of the team through out the qualifiers.

He plays for  Troyes in the French Ligue 1.


SAMUEL ADEKUGBE [Canada]

Samuel Adekugbe is another player who will feature for Canada at the mundial starting in Qatar on the 20th of November.

He was born in England to Nigerian parents but his family moved to Canada many years ago. So far he's had 33 caps for the North American side.


*KAREEM ADEYEMI [Germany]

20 year old  Adeyemi was born to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother in the German city of Munich. He made his senior team debut in a World Cup qualification against Armenia on 5 September 2021.

Since making his debut for the Die Mannschaft in 2021, he's go on to play four times for the side.
